• Continue to encourage participation of the Chamber community in the training program to promote excellence among members of Boards of Directors and Staff of the nonprofit sector.

• Act as a liaison to identify participants to assist in establishing communication and collaboration for various Fort Bend initiatives impacting the quality of life.

• Host education seminars, programs and workshops on topics of value to Fort Bend business and nonprofit sector.

• Enhance the student-driven Youth in Philanthropy program by developing a partnership with the nonprofit sector, local school districts, and community volunteers to communicate and encourage youth in their role in building a quality community for all ages.

• To bring the diversity of Fort Bend County to the forefront by engaging the general membership in developing new workshops and special presentations to establish and nurture meaningful relationships for all community stakeholders.

• To continue to seek continuing education opportunities that can impact the quality of life issues critical to the success of the community.

Fort Bend Leadership for Nonprofit Excellence

Are you interested in learning more about the Leadership for Nonprofit Excellence Class? This is an eight-month program for Board and Staff members of nonprofits in Fort Bend County. The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with The George Foundation, designed this program to make nonprofit organizations stronger and better equipped to serve the community. This program combines a real-world, organization-based perspective with current thinking and concrete skills to facilitate strengthening the capacity and effectiveness of the Fort Bend nonprofit sector.

Youth in Philanthropy (YIP)

YIP Team is formed by bringing together Fort Bend County junior and senior high school students and providing them the unique opportunity to experience how volunteerism and philanthropy coexist to serve their community. Over the next school year (2011-2012), the team of selected students will embark on a journey to strengthen their connections with their community as well as with each other. The YIP Team will participate in site visits and volunteer projects with area nonprofit organizations to increase their knowledge of the Fort bend County nonprofit sector. At the conclusion of the school year, with their new knowledge and understanding of the community and the many organizations providing services to its residents, the YIP Team will evaluate local charities and put philanthropy into action by awarding monetary grants to participating nonprofits.
