Historic Fort Bend County

History

Fort Bend is a county rich in history with roots dating to the early 1820’s and the arrival of Stephan F. Austin’s original colony of 300 families at the bend of the Brazos River.  From the establishment in 1837 of the county seat in Richmond to the beginnings of storied Imperial Sugar in 1886 through the discovery of oil in the 1900's and beyone Fort Bend County has a wealth of colorful history to explore.
