“When thinking about where to purchase a home to settle down, you want to look for a place that will be a good investment in
the long run,” says Claire Etheridge, Data analyst for “Cities that are affordable and exhibit growth in home
values and population dominated the list. High educational values and low unemployment indicate a place where one can
prosper while a low crime rate will keep the family safe and comfortable in their forever home.”

Cities were ranked on six criteria:
● Affordability - The median selected monthly
owner costs as a percentage of household
● Net Migration - percentage population change
between 2010 and 2015
● Unemployment - percentage of unemployed
● Home Value Recession Recovery- The change in
median home value between 2009 and 2015
● Crime Rate - The number of crime incidents per 1,000

or older with a bachelor's degree or higher and/or high
school diploma or higher

“Cities in Texas dominated the list, while other places near large metro areas in states such as Colorado, California, and
North Dakota were ranked near the top as well. The higher ranked cities tended to be smaller with populations between
70,000 and 155,000 residents.”
