Prophetic City: At the Cusp of a Changing America with Stephen L Klineberg, Ph.D.

The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce’s Diversity Action Team will host F Prophetic City: At the Cusp of a Changing America with Stephen L Klineberg, Ph.D. on June 8, 2017 from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM at Sugar Land Marriott, 16090 City Walk, Sugar Land, TX 77479.

Professor Klineberg’s public lectures generally center on his work with the Kinder Houston Area Survey, a pioneering study of metropolitan Houston and the larger demographic, economic, and cultural trends shaping urban centers across the country. While lectures can be geared toward a specific geographic region or topic, the research draws on 35 years of systematic interviews with successive representative samples of Harris County residents, tracking responses to a changing America. Stephen L. Klineberg, Ph.D. is the Founding Director of Kinder Institute for Urban Research and a Professor of Sociology at Rice University.

The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce Diversity Action Team educates, leads, and influence businesses on creating diverse and inclusive workforce cultures to enhance their competitive advantage.  We respect the evolving diversity of our county and embrace this strength, understanding that diversity fosters innovation and creativity in our businesses thereby increasing performance.  Only by learning and engaging with people and organizations that support this spectrum of diversity can we together make the Chamber, its members, and community stronger. The Diversity Action Team provides resources and programs to continue to improve diversity and inclusion for businesses.

Fort Bend County was 19 percent Asian, 24 percent Hispanic, 21 percent Black and 36 percent White in 2010, according to Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice. “The statistics for Fort Bend are just remarkable,” said Klineberg, co-director for the institute. “There are very few Asians in Miami, very few Hispanics in San Francisco, very few African-Americans in Los Angeles. Fort Bend County is where the four communities meet in greater balance. These impressive statistics have led the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce to create the Diversity Action Team to ensure we continue to make Fort Bend County the most diverse county to live, work, and play in.
